DISCOVER MORE ABOUT THE AUTHOR

A colleague, after reading Ron’s blogs and newsletters, once said, “He is a person I would like to have a glass of wine or a beer with. His literary voice is approachable, friendly, and has a Chicago south side feel to it. His style of writing is both unique and inviting.” A great compliment when you consider that Ron doesn’t drink and isn’t originally from the south side of Chicago. He has written this book for fundraising professionals responsible for raising annual fund money. Ron has helped nonprofit organizations grow their base of support for over 31 years. Known as Rescigno’s copyediting guru, he works with clients to create appeal letters that pass the ‘donor-focused’ test. It is Ron’s hope that his new book will help nonprofit organizations raise more money so they can do even more good in the world. Fatal Fundraising Flaws is Ron’s second book, a follow-up to The Process- Driven Annual Fund published in 2021. Ron maintains a very active presence on the Rescignos.com website with his weekly blogs, newsletters, and his articles written for LinkedIn.

Ron is a warm and caring gentleman with a homespun Midwest charm that’s infectious and captivating. He also knows his stuff. Ron’s words perfectly captured the fears, the dreams, and the struggles I had experienced as a nonprofit leader. I’m sure you, as a reader, will have the same response. The tips located within these pages are golden. They come from years of experience working with nonprofits who have lived through mistakes, mishaps, and misjudgments, thus missing the money from generous donors. Whether you’re relatively new to the fundraising profession or even if you’ve been in the trenches raising money for some time, Ron’s book should be required reading. I think you’ll agree after reading this book that Ron Rescigno has hit the mark.

Self-proclaimed watchdog organizations would have you believe that donors care mostly about your numbers, but what donors really care about is the impact of the work you do and knowing how their donations made a difference in the lives of people (or animals or the environment). Ron elaborates on one of the most important aspects of fundraising in his book – stewardship. It’s a must read for anyone in fundraising.

Ron knows how much people love to hear personal stories of people helped by nonprofits. These organizations often share stories with donors to show how their monies are used to continue their altruistic missions. Ron encourages nonprofits to shift the focus of these stories to the person in need and not what charities want. For example, a hospital needs to purchase a special machine for operations and shares this request with its donors. Ron explains that donors would like to know how such a machine can make a difference in the life of a waiting patient. He also explains how nonprofits can spotlight those stories to illustrate human connections.

Organizations with a culture of philanthropy are the most effective at fundraising over the long haul. In these organizations, fundraising isn’t something vague that “those people in the development office down there at the end of the hall” do. It is embraced by everyone from the board to front-line staff.

Does your organization have a culture of philanthropy?

What does that culture look like?

This presentation will give you ideas and suggestions on how to create a culture that lasts a lifetime.
